Children's Mythology

Before rationality, there is mythology. As children, we naively absorb information, often conflicting information, and we build our own naive mythologies to make sense of them and settle those contradictions.

In this series, mythology is conceived not as an alternative reality or a lack of reason, but instead as an infantile rationality. In a way, this series of paintings is a child’s version of the “Between Connection and Contradiction” series.

When I was four and a half years old, at the turn of the millennium, New Year's Eve of 1999, I asked my mother a question: if we have a Monday every week, and if we have a December every year, when will it be 1999 again?

She said "never," and I was shocked. This did not fit my mythology. Ideas of eternity, mortality, and ephemerality were introduced to my story; they invaded my little world.
